If only the Las Vegas killer had been a Muslim

In the Houston Chronicle, Thomas L. Friedman had written an article, "If only the Las Vegas killer had been a Muslim," Friedman states that if the shooter were a Muslim or associated with Muslims then our government would've taken some type of action. Instead, we labeled him "mentally ill" and we're just going to ignore the fact that he shot up a music festival and killed dozens and injured hundreds of people. Friedman argues that there would be no change to gun control since it was not a Muslim, but if it was then the government and president would have immediately been all over the gun control law and take action. He brings up that the president and government are always discussing how to end ISIS and they won't stop till they do, but when the NRA is brought up for discussion they immediately cease conversation. I agree with Friedman that this is a problem that it should not matter about the race or gender, all that matters is that people are killing other people and we need to take action. That being said, we need to discuss the gun control issue and not turn a blind eye because someone is "mentally ill."
