Marijuana is a Positive thing.

After reading my classmate's opinion on marijuana in their blog, "The Next Mega Industry in the U.S.." She discusses how the use of marijuana is undeniably helping our country whether we want to accept it or not. She states that jobs are increasing and the rate of unemployment is decreasing and the legalization of marijuana is in only a few states. Imagine if more states legalize marijuana, not only will it continue to decrease the unemployment rate but it's also helping people medical wise. I agree with her that marijuana being legalized is a positive thing because it has undeniably helped people in need.

Immigration Policy in the United States

Immigration has been an issue faced by a tight debate in the United States for a long time. The debate arose once again during the campaign of President Donald Trump whose stance on immigration has always been to reduce the number of immigrants into the United States. The immigration system has been targeted by President Donald Trump who has been provoking a new legislation which is meant to cut the number of illegal immigrants in the country (Shugerman, 2017). He is also advocating for a new merit-based visa scheme which would limit the number of immigrants into the country. The number of immigrants in the United States has been estimated to be between 11 and 12 million people but this data has been constantly questioned by President Trump.

During his campaigns, the president spoke against illegal immigration which as he asserted, stole jobs from the American workers. In an attempt to reduce their number, he has pushed for the construction of US-Mexico border wall as well as a ban on the travel of six Muslim majority countries (Shugerman, 2017). The president has also promoted the RAISE Act which is aimed at cutting the population of immigrants in the United States by half over a period of ten years. The act will favor those who have good job skills, speak English and most importantly, those that can contribute to the economy of the United States (Shugerman, 2017).

Together with other Senators such as Tom Cotton and David Perdue, President Trump suggested that the act would reduce poverty in the country as well as increase the wages, a situation which would also save the taxpayers a lot of money (Shugerman, 2017). He also emphasized that it would favor English-speaking immigrants and they would be able to support themselves financially. The RAISE Act is a weighty attempt by the president to attempt the reformation of the legal immigration system although significant changes are yet to come into manifestation.

Response to Gun Control

After reading my classmate's opinion on gun control in their blog, "Politically Inept? Not For Long." He discusses his view of this law and how it is unconstitutional as well as illegal. He brought up the Second Amendment and that the Founding Fathers had the vision of “protecting the types of weapons that the standing army would use.” Meaning that using or having a weapon is our God given right. The Constitution was ratified in the year 1795, this was 222 years ago in a different time. Guns have undergone so many changes since then, and I don’t think the Founding Fathers realized how much harm the Second Amendment would bring. The Second Amendment was meant to keep us from harm yet is has brought more harm than good. Guns are not meant for everybody, thankfully there are gun regulations made to limit America’s use of guns. The government that is in charge of these laws will do anything in their power to keep U.S. citizens safe from people that shouldn't have guns.

A New Era of Immigration

During Obama's administration his immigration policies were vastly different then the one Trump is trying to impose. Obama focused more on "removing criminals rather than families, overhauling immigration courts, and making changes to the high-skilled visa system." Immigrants were allowed to stay in this country if they were parents of U.S. citizens or had a green card for at least five years. There was a limit to this though, there was a cap at five millions immigrants and no more would be allowed in even if they met these standards. There is 3.7 undocumented immigrants that are capable of registering and are protected for up to 3 years after they start to pay taxes as well as agree to a background check. If an immigrant arrived in the U.S. in the past five years they were not allowed to apply because the system is already saturated with immigrants trying to obtain citizenship. Obama also made more changes to The Department of Homeland Security and ICE; increasing border control. This gave legal immigrants easy access to traveling as well as changing jobs."We’re going to keep focusing enforcement resources on actual threats to our security," said Obama in one of his speeches."Felons, not families. Criminals, not children. Gang members, not a mother who’s working hard to provide for her kids. We’ll prioritize, just like law enforcement does every day. Now with a new president in office, Donald Trump, has come up with new immigration policies. Some of these policies are similar to Obama's but he has taken more action to keep this country safe. His three policy objectives are "border security: building a wall, interior enforcement: enforce our immigration laws and return visa overstays, and merit-based immigration system: establish reforms that protect American workers and promote financial success."

Although not all immigrants are criminals, Trump's policy will make it more difficult for the criminals to obtain access to green cards and visa's, making our country a safer place. The merit-based immigration system will allow only immigrants who will add to our society,  making it a more advanced and educated country. Due to these important factors I beleive that Trump's immigration policy is better for America in the long run.

Texas Campus Carry Law

The intended audience of the article is for the people who agree with the Texas campus carry law. Tyler Jones is a credible source because he is a student and he is able to argue his thought on the Texas campus carry law. The article Why I changed my mind on bringing guns to Texas colleges” written by Tyler Jones a student at Stephen F. Austin State University, talks about why gun carry on a college campus shouldn’t be allowed. He supported this law until he became a college student and became aware of how safe it is to allow gun carry on a college campus. He brings up the Las Vegas shooting and the recent shooting at Texas Tech University which is what really opened up his eyes to the Texas campus carry law. His logic for this is that kids get anxious and stressed and they always have something going on up in their heads sometimes it can be really negative things. If you give them the okay to carry a gun on campus one day they might snap and the only thing they know to turn to is their gun and we all know where that can lead too. I agree with Tyler because I’m a college student and it scares me that maybe one day a student might go crazy and turn to their gun and all I have to protect me is what I bring to school: books. I grew up in a conservative family like Tyler, and I think it’s fine to own a gun, but I do not agree with the Texas campus carry law for the sake of my own safety and others safety.
